      Job Description

      For the purposes of this position, the working title will be Industry Sector Specialist. This position supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) educators in Florida, most notably through helping define the learning objectives (standards and benchmarks) of CTE programs ranging from middle school through 2-year associate degrees. The Industry Sector Specialist works with subject matter experts, Florida districts and colleges and the State Board of Education, to advance new as well as update existing CTE programs. Central aspects of the position include collaboration and facilitation, written and verbal technical assistance and project management. The position requires periodic travel for professional development, program review facilitation and to present on CTE topics.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:

      • The Industry Sector Specialist is assigned to the Division of Career and Adult Education (DCAE), Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and reports to the Assistant Director in the Office of Career and Technical Education (CTE).
      • The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.
      • The employee must interact courteously with others.
      • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.
      • Provides Technical Assistance to locale recipients to implement and carry out programs, services and activities related to Career and Technical Education.
      • Supports the Assistant Director in their successful maintenance of Industry Sectors clusters, including, but not limited to Architecture & Construction; Energy; Engineering & Technology Education; Manufacturing; and Transportation, Distribution & Logistics.
      • Works with partners in education, business and industry, and trade associations to evaluate, improve, and build quality 21st century Program of Study (POS).
      • Conducts evaluations, and accountability studies to identify achievement gaps and improve the delivery of CTE services in the areas of instruction and student performance, as well as generate program reports.
      • Familiar with current standards and emerging professional trends, research, as well as developments affecting CTE curriculum and instruction.
      • Maintain CPALMS and facilitate technical support and training on how to use the online toolkit.
      • Work with DCAE team members on activities and projects related to CTE’s improvement targets and goals.
      • In partnership with educational and industry partners, select FCS institutions and other cluster-specific organizations design, develop, and implement quality professional development experiences for CTE teachers and school personnel.
      • Oversee the development and maintenance of grants specific to CTE programs, and perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Four to six years of professional experience working in career and technical education programs.

        • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month.
