      Department Overview:

      Based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the High Road Strategy Center (HRSC), formerly COWS, is a national think-and-do tank that promotes “high road” solutions to social problems. These treat shared growth and opportunity, environmental sustainability, and resilient democratic institutions as necessary and achievable complements in human development.       The ideal candidate will be available summers and during fall and spring semesters until graduation, but we can be flexible.

      Schedule:

      15 to 20 hours per week. Students can generally choose their own schedule to work around classes as needed, but they must set their schedule in advance, and hours must be during regular business hours (between ~9am-5pm, Monday-Friday).

      Qualifications:

      Minimum qualifications:

      Experience working independently on administrative work in an office environment (either volunteer or paid experience).
      Excellent attention to detail.
      Pleasant, professional attitude, flexible schedule, and positive work ethic.
      Ability to learn quickly.
      Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

      Preferred experience includes any of the following:

      Light policy research
      Website design or editing (WordPress)
      Managing organizational social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) or email marketing (Mailchimp, Eloqua, etc.) accounts
      Graphic design or editing (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva)
      Experience with making phone calls in a professional setting
      Data entry
      Video/Photo Editing (Adobe Premier or Photoshop)

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      We are seeking students who have an interest in public policy, local politics, sustainability, shared democracy, and equity to support our work by providing research, communications, and administrative support in a dependable, engaged manner. A pleasant, professional attitude and positive work ethic are a must. Must learn quickly, have some experience doing administrative work in an office environment, and be able to work independently.

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      We are seeking students to provide research, writing, communications, and administrative support, with the opportunity to work on additional projects as available. These duties may include policy research, data collection and entry, updating websites, posting on social media, making phone calls to event invitees, drafting mass emails, designing or editing informational and promotional materials, or other administrative tasks as assigned.

      Physical Demands:

      Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages, and other items and walk short distances.
