      This position helps lead developmental aspects of public safety project, policy and outreach initiatives for the Public Protection Section.

      NC DOJ Public Protection Section

      DOJ seeks a Project Advisor to work closely with the Director of the Public Protection Section and members of the Public Protection team to develop, plan and execute on the Public Protection Section’s ongoing and emerging policy and outreach work, as set by the Attorney General and the Department of Justice.

      The position should be:

      • Able to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines and multiple leads.
      • Extremely well-organized and detail orientated and equally effective working independently or collaboratively with others.
      • Proficient in operating a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, case management, document review, presentation, research, and e-mail software applications.
      Project Management
      In coordination with the Director of the Public Protection Section and in concert with the Public Protection team, this position will be responsible for serving as a project manager for the Section’s work, including facilitating the development and implementation of programmatic and policy responses to topics addressed by the Public Protection Section, including ongoing efforts and the establishment of new initiatives and programs such as victims’ assistance, internet safety, scams and frauds and youth safety and well-being.

      The Public Protection Section is considering additional policy and outreach efforts and this position would be key to the successful development of these initiatives.

      As a critical member of the Public Protection team, this position will collaborate closely with members of the team to ensure the successful execution of Section initiatives. This role will work closely with internal and external partners and will be responsible for developing and maintaining productive relationships.

      Projects are varied as required by the demands of a particular initiative, but this position should be proactive in moving initiatives from the planning to the execution stage, working not only to adhere to plans, but also to identify potential setbacks and appropriate adjustments. This work will include developing and updating strategy and planning documents, including timelines and task lists, coordinating internal project management meetings, and assisting with the execution of related events. Additional responsibilities may include gathering research, synthesizing information, and drafting memos and external materials.

      Specific responsibilities may include:
      • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines;
      • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected and identifying any areas for discussion;
      • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change;
      • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project;
      • Researching and documenting best practices around the state related to Public Protection initiatives and, as appropriate, facilitating relevant collaboration; and Planning and facilitating virtual and in person convenings, including the maintenance of calendar appointments, related materials and appropriate follow-up, both internally and externally.
      • The ideal candidate will have a robust working public and business administration knowledge with a proven track record (or demonstrated success).
      • The candidate will apply these fully developed skills when performing their project management role and outreach efforts.
      • This work will be performed autonomously.

      In addition, this position will support the Director of the Public Protection Section with related administrative tasks.

      Outreach
      Participates in the creation and execution of a community education plan to serve and protect the people of North Carolina, including making presentations on behalf of DOJ, as appropriate. Topics may include, but are not limited to, victims’ assistance, internet safety, scams and frauds, youth safety and well-being and the work of the NC Department of Justice.

      This position functions in a hybrid work environment, must be able to commute to a DOJ office in Raleigh as needed when required.

      Position will be required to represent the agency at various functions for outreach, and requires travel within North Carolina. Project planning and management will require the employee to travel to the site for planning purposes and project roll out.

      Other duties as assigned.

      The salary grade for this position is NC17. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. Please detail ALL work history including non-state service experience. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result.

      THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $56,906 to $70,000. Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as our agency budget and equity.

      Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment;
