      Job Description

      The Project Coordinator I, under general supervision, will work as a member of a team providing leadership and support for planning, and implementation programs on a statewide basis.

      Responsibilities:

      The Project Coordinator I, will assist the Natural Resources Institute with promoting the restoration of longleaf pine on private and public forest lands in Texas. In 2014, the taskforce developed a steering committee of 15 conservation organizations known as the Texas Longleaf Team (TLT) to focus on East Texas longleaf pine restoration, specifically in the Longleaf Ridge and Big Thicket geographic areas. TLT, focuses restoration of the longleaf ecosystem in Texas through landowner and industry outreach and education, technical support, and cost-share programs that assist landowners in implementation of prescribed fire, planting and other beneficial management practices.

      - Technical Assistance and Project Management

      • Coordinate with existing partner landowners to ensure follow-through on funded projects.
      • Coordinate and facilitate property field visits by recognized professional foresters to provide technical assistance and advance management plan development.
      • Implement project monitoring plan (ensure longitudinal data is collected on all projects, ensuring maintenance of funded activities, and providing long-term measurement of restoration impacts).
      • Recruit new landowners through site visits and technical advisement related to their long-term management objectives.
      • Develop management plans and funding applications as needed. Identify and directly contact private landowners with forest stewardship opportunities.
      • Assists in maintenance of records for all landowner projects involved in the program. Track each project to assure that contacts are made, that landowners are connected to appropriate resources / contractors, and that management activities are implemented and completed.
      • Work with partners to ensure appropriate support for landowners.

      - Outreach

      - Collaborate with partners to promote and advance educational opportunities for landowners (attend and/or host field days, attend local forest landowner association meetings, trade shows, etc., and speak/present at partnered events) that promote:

      • The value of prescribed fire
      • Longleaf restoration and management
      • Recreational opportunities associated with longleaf pine
      • Economic opportunities associated with longleaf pine
      • Best practices for planting and management of the longleaf ecosystem
      • Other relevant topics as approved by Coordinator and TLT

      - Work with Coordinator to keep TLT digital and print materials up to date

      • Manage social media presence
      • Coordinate messaging on website
      • Assist with development of video content as needed
      • Assist with providing print content for partner publications (TFA, TWA, TLA, etc.)

      Required Education and Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, wildlife, or other natural resource discipline Forestry, Wildlife or any applicable field or equivalent combination of education or experience.
      • Three years of related experience in project coordination/administration.

      Preferred Education and Experience:

      • Five years of experience delivering technical assistance to landowners and developing educational programs.
      • Experience in conservation, ecology, forestry, or wildlife management
      • Experience in longleaf pine management, silvics, restoration, conservation, and fire ecology.

      Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

      • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
      • Knowledge of standard proofreading.
      • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
      • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
      • Good communication skills.

      Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:

      • Ability to communicate and educate landowners, conservation professionals, and other identified user groups about longleaf restoration, conservation, and management.

      Location: Must live within the 20-county Texas Longleaf Team service area, preferably the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area.
