      Role Purpose

      The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for providing support to the Finance department and Project Managers.

      About the Role

      • Schedule and lead monthly touchpoints with project managers to monitor project progress, budgets, and costs.
      • Coordinate with project managers to ensure Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) forms for budgeted capital projects are completed and tracked for reporting.
      • Discuss project timelines and proactively identify potential delays or budget risks with project managers.
      • Prepare and distribute monthly capital project reports for internal stakeholders and the Project Management Office (PMO).
      • Oversee the projects module in Oracle, including project creation, maintenance, and closure.
      • Create and manage work orders in Maximo, ensuring timely processing and alignment with project requirements.
      • Ensure capital project costs are in compliance with internal policies and IFRS (e.g., IAS 16, IAS 23).
      • Support internal and external audits by preparing relevant documentation and responding to project cost-related inquiries.

      About You

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
      • CPA designation or in progress is preferred
      • 3–5 years of relevant experience in cost or project accounting, ideally within a project-based or capital-intensive industry (e.g., infrastructure logistics, construction)
      • Familiarity with IFRS standards, particularly related to capital project accounting
      • Strong understanding of project accounting principles and financial controls
      • Self-reliance, with the ability to take initiative and make decisions proactively under time constraints.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication,with the ability to ask critical questions and influence project teams.
      • Strong organizational, planning and analytical skills, with attention to detail so that workflow is managed efficiently and accurately.
      • Advanced computer skills, including previous experience using Maximo ERP software, and advanced Excel skills.
      • Solid understanding of accrual based accounting.
      • Good understanding of the BC Builders’ Lien Act.
      • Fluent in English.
      • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
