      The Project Design Coordinator (CAD) supports members of the Planning, Design & Construction team with a variety of planning, design, and construction management related tasks for the Zoo. The Project Design Coordinator (CAD) will provide CAD support & project coordination for all aspects of the planning, design & construction process.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      Priority 1 – CAD Support & Project Coordination

      • Assist with CAD development for concept & design plans for in-house & capital projects.
      • Work with the planning team to reconcile and organize the zoo’s master AutoCAD files with new survey, as-built information and updating campus utility plans.
      • Develop campus-wide studies to assist in the management of the Zoo Master Plan.
      • Participate in the review process of architectural, landscape, and building system design documents (drawings and specifications) by design consultants, for completeness and accuracy.
      • Perform dimension site & facilities studies for capital & in-house projects.
      • Assist with master planning layouts, draft plans, and design updates.
      • Perform site analysis, precedent and cost analysis studies for new projects.
      • Coordinate smaller in-house projects as assigned.

      Priority 2 – Collaboration & Team Support

      • Assist Project Managers as assigned with the coordination of construction projects by providing support in the way of project logistics, contractor coordination and site reviews.
      • Provide coordination support for the Signage Manager related to signage installation preparation, contractor coordination, signage scheduling, maintain/update digital signage inventory and map document.
      • Provide support to the Senior Director of Planning, Design and Construction and other department staff as needed and requested.

      Priority 3 – Administration

      • Assist with organizing the reference library, construction plans, and electronic files.
      • Provide support with project documentation tracking for city agreement requirements.
      • Participate in Planning, Design & Construction Department meetings.
      • Participate in goal setting activities that support the Zoo’s OER (Overall Experience Rating) and Engagement efforts, as well as move the Design & Project Management Department forward.
      • Communicate project status regularly to Zoo staff through written updates.

      Other Duties and Responsibilities

      • Other assistance, as designated by the Senior Director of Planning, Design and Construction or Project/Signage Managers, to support the overall goals of the department and organization. Denver Zoo retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
      • Perform cost analysis studies for new projects. Acts as a good steward of Denver Zoo’s resources.
      • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of Denver Zoo.
      • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.

      Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

      • An associate degree in drafting, computer aided design & drafting certificate degree program and/or bachelor’ in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related discipline or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
      • 3+ years of experience in CAD design & drafting in architecture, engineering, civil or construction is a must, working in a nonprofit in a related field are preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
      • Knowledge of general design, planning and construction.
      • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
      • Must be able to explain construction documents for those not versed in reading/interpreting drawings and specifications.
      • Working knowledge in software packages including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Sketch-UP and Adobe Photoshop is recommended.
      • Requires excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.

      Position Conditions

      • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
      • Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.
      • Schedule Availability: Monday-Friday, with ability to work nights and weekends, as necessary.
      • Work Location: On campus

      Compensation
      Range for this position is $5,206 - $6,508 (monthly).
