      Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.


      General Description:

      The Project Engineer Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and managing installation of laboratory equipment for all HRL labs. This includes close working partnerships with department stakeholders to coordinate installation of equipment and support with problem solving on any issues that may arise.


      Essential Duties:

      Oversee and manage the full cycle of projects regarding installation of equipment, partnering closely with key departments and tool end users

      Work with Facilities, IT, Plant Security, EH&S, and outside contractors to generate Building & Land budgets and specifications for equipment installs

      Review Machine and Equipment budgets and support new equipment and tool acquisition, advising regarding any additional necessary support equipment (abatement, pumps, gas cabinets, special utilities as needed)

      Work with lab representatives and Facilities to establish appropriate equipment installation locations within the laboratories

      Develop and update CAD drawings for all projects

      Calculate and provide tool clearances for access and egress and service areas of lab space

      Partner with EH&S department to evaluate abatement needs for tools with specialty gases

      Work with Shipping and Receiving and laboratories to coordinate tool installation dates. Coordinate with outside machinery movers if necessary

      Develop and maintain written procedures for installation of new tools, start up and shut down procedures, as well as long term preventative maintenance procedures

      Serve as the project manager for ESG on equipment installations, including but not limited to creation and update of schedules, documented specifications and statements of work

      Problem solve with Laboratory staff and Facilities staff re installation planning and equipment installation issues

      Participate with the ESG Project team during staff meetings and pass downs.

      Other duties as assigned or necessary


      Required Skills:

      Experience in process vacuum equipment, installing equipment, understanding Vacuum Technology, electronic trouble shooting, working with PLCs, abatement technology, and Environmental Monitoring Systems.

      Ability to read technical specifications and write and maintain effective procedure manuals

      Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

      Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) programs

      Working knowledge of standard laboratory utilities.

      Experience working in cleanrooms and other types of laboratories


      Required Education:

      AS or BS Engineering degree and 5 years work experience or 10-15 years work experience installing wide range of process vacuum equipment, Photo Lithography, Metal Deposition, PECVD, Etch , MOCVD, Ion Mill, SVG Tracks, CDSEM and other process tools

      Physical Requirements:

      Able to work within an ISO 4 cleanroom environment

      Must be able to work safely around toxic & potentially hazardous materials, gases and chemicals

      Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity

      Good hand eye coordination

      Respirator capable desired

      Heavy lifting required


      Special Requirements:

      Must already hold or have ability to obtain and sustain Top Secret Clearance

      Must possess valid Driver’s License

      Must be available to work during company shutdown periods


      Compensation:

      The base salary range for this full-time position is $132,765 - $165,983 + bonus + benefits.
