      BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, has two openings for Project Engineers. As a Project Engineer, you will lead various multi-discipline engineering teams on a variety of design and construction projects. This position reports to the Senior Chief Engineer at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN.

      Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Manage functional requirements for projects.
      • Technically lead the engineering staff assigned to the specific Modernization programs in the design, development and commissioning activities. Responsible for overall technical viability to requirements as well as successful completion of engineering tasks on the assigned projects.
      • Create the technical development plan and overall engineering tasking. Lead the technical team in meeting schedule within budget and providing regular progress updates.
      • Lead technical design team in the application of BAE Systems Life Cycle Management processes and methods.
      • Provide technical risk management for the project. Coordinate the technical aspects of the Modernization programs with the overall team.
      • Lead internal engineering or external suppliers in the development of drawings, statements of work, and specification packages for procurement of equipment or services.
      • Support the transition to production following commissioning.
      • Prepare budgetary and engineering estimates for individual tasks, project phases, and new proposal support.
      • Supervise subcontractor work to assure satisfactory performance of the scope of work.
      • Prepare schedules regarding assigned technical tasks and provide status on tasking.
      • Prepare workflow schedule and process task duration estimates.
      • Assist the project manager in development of the budget, approval of purchase requisitions and of invoices.
      • Performs other duties as required.

      Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

      Required Skills and Education

      • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, civil, chemical or systems engineering or closely related field.
      • 8+ years related experience, including 5 years of experience in engineering design, development, and commissioning.
      • 2 years in an engineering technical project leadership position.
      • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with various functional departments and customers.
      • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
      • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ProE or similar software.

      Preferred Skills and Education

      • Experience in the chemical process industry or energetics industry.
      • Understanding and experience within cross-functional teams.
      • Experience in plant capital sustainment or expansion projects including commissioning activities.
      • Experience with Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) methodology and substantiating task estimates. #LI-Onsite #LI-JR1
