      The premedical UCSF Breast Care Center (BCC) Internship Program is a highly competitive program which we offer recent college graduates the opportunity to gain 1-2 years of experience contributing to progress in basic science, clinical research, and patient care. Our vision is to sustain our program as a demonstration of a "Premedical Corps", similar in spirit to the Peace Corps or Teach for America. In such programs, young people earn a stipend while gaining experience working in areas of high need for a few years before continuing their educational and professional journeys.

      The Research Assistant will be part of the 2021-2022 intern cohort of the BCC Internship Program. The Research Assistant's main function will be to supply support to the BCC Faculty and Project Managers. They will assist in many aspects of the Faculty/Project Manager's projects possibly including; developing independent research projects, continuing previous interns' research projects, assisting with aspects of a clinical trial, assisting with integrating patient care, and collaborating in decision making processes.

      Additionally, the Research Assistant will support the Patient Support Corps program. This support program features the Research Assistants deployed as health coaches and patient advocates, in particular helping connect
      patients with relevant information, list questions, and make notes and recordings of visits with specialists.

      The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

      Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

      The salary range for this position is $52,800 - $64,500 (Annual Rate).

      Department Description

      he Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is specifically designed to meet the needs of patients with breast problems, breast cancer, or general concerns about breast health. Our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, and pathologists work with patients to help coordinate care to ensure that all of their concerns are thoroughly addressed. Our mission is to develop an innovative setting that will ensure that a patient's sense of comfort and participation are central in delivering the best care possible.

      This program, created in 2005, has grown every year to include more robust experiences, larger and more impactful scientific research, as well as more hands-on training with patients and mentors.

      Required Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree in science related area and / or equivalent experience / training with basic science techniques or methods
      • Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
      • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
      • Ability to use sound judgment in
      • Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail. responding to issues and concerns.
      • Basic program and project management skills.
      • Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
      • Must have a strong basic science background as well as interest in clinical research and patient care.
      • Ability to work in fast paced, team based, dynamic environment.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Proficiency within MS Office Suite.
