Job Description

- Sight reads documents to find errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting and Cravath style;
- Uses standard proofreading marks to show changes;
- Prepares electronic markups using Adobe Acrobat Tools;
- Compares original documents with revised documents to identify typographical errors;
- Communicates information on specific requests and deadline difficulties in a timely and professional manner;
- Interacts with Document Processing Specialists regarding edits to be made;
- Scans proofread documents to PDF and attach to outgoing message;
- Logs all work in department database ensuring that instructions and job status are comprehensive, clear and accurate;
- Prepares time cards according to ADP best practices;
- Runs electronic comparisons;
- Uses customized Word macros to prepare defined terms checks;
- Uses Word to incorporate minor revisions to documents; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- 2+ years experience as a legal proofreader, or equivalent experience;
- Mastery of English grammar, usage and punctuation;
- Knowledge of proofreading symbols, legal terminology, citation protocol and blacklining;
- Strong organizational skills and consistent attention to detail;
- Good communication skills;
- Basic knowledge of PC;
- Ability to work well under pressure and coordinate several activities at one time;
- Capable of solving problems and meeting strict deadlines;
- Equipment/Software Used: printer, scanner, ADP program to record time, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Litera Compare, Outlook and other applications as required; and
- Availability to work overtime; weekends as needed.
OVERVIEW
Proofreaders are responsible for reviewing and proofreading both legal and non-legal documents generated by the Firm using standard proofreading practices.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is fully remote, but that is subject to change. The hours for this position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000 plus overtime. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
