Job Description

- Responsible for the full accounting cycle for 8 - 10 apartment communities.
- Duties include – journal entries (monthly and quarterly); booking cash and bank reconciliations; balance sheet reconciliations; reviewing financial statements as compared to budget, identifying, and explaining variances where needed; reviewing invoices for proper general ledger coding as well as distinguishing between capital expenditures and operating expenses.
- The Property Accountant needs an understanding of accounting rules and concepts and the ability to apply them in practice.
- Ability to prepare specialized investor reporting on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis.
- The Property Accountant needs to be able to fully comprehend what the reporting is presenting and be able to explain all aspects if needed.
- Work with external auditors on an annual GAAP audit.
- The Property Accountant should be able to fulfil audit requests and be able to provide auditors information that is accurate, timely, and complete.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
- Certain information is the responsibility of the Property Accountant to enter in the budget template, so the Property Accountant needs to understand what to enter, how it is calculated, what it represents, etc.
- A plus is the ability to review the work of other Property Accountants at month end to check for accuracy, completeness, etc. This skill will be honed over time.
- Assist on special projects as needed.
- The PA needs to be able to work on/complete the project with minimal guidance. There is an expectation that the Senior Property Accountant will understand what is needed and how to provide it.
- An understanding of the flow of financial statements, both balance sheet and income statement.
- An understanding of accrual accounting (versus cash basis accounting).
- An understanding of Retained Earnings /Equity Accounts.
- An understanding of the flow and workings of the Statement of Cash Flows.
- An understanding of the concepts and practices of depreciation and amortization.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Yardi Software is a plus.

- College Degree Required, Accounting Degree Preferred
- 5+ Years of progressive experience in accounting (either public or private); real estate or related field

CWS Apartment Homes is the property management arm of CWS Capital Partners.
Our accounting team is located primarily in Austin, Texas and consists of a team of 20+ dedicated individuals who work hard but still know how to have fun. We maintain the books and records for approximately 30,000 apartment units held in some 1,200 partnerships and other entities. It’s a big job that we take a great deal of pride in executing.
Currently, we have an opportunity for a Property Accountant who will be responsible for a portfolio of 8-10 apartment properties. The position will be trained and supported by one or more members of the accounting team.
