  The Adult Acute Services units of the Edmonton zone Mental health and addictions services are dynamic, patient and family centered inpatient units where all members of the team work within the collaborative care (Co-ACT) framework. Reporting to the Unit Manager or designate, and under the direction and supervision of a staff nurse, the psychiatric/mental health aide performs activities that support meeting the personal care needs and comforts of patients: in accordance with patient care plans and hospital policies and procedures. This includes (but is not limited to) assisting in the provision of routine care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs. You will also assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients & families, staff and visitors. Off campus patient escort duties may be assigned. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.   Description:
  As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

  Required Qualifications:
  Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
  Additional Required Qualifications:
  To be successful in this role, you are a person who: Has strong verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required) that supports verbal messages being received and understood. Has demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks. Has an excellent attendance record. Has completed Mental Health First Aid training. Has current BLS certification via Heart & Stroke Foundation.
  Preferred Qualifications:
  Have some post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services. Have a Personal Support Aide, Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate (equivalencies may be considered).
