  Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining various grounds, fields, and facilities. Works varied hours including weekends and holidays. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work.
  • Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks.
  • Prepares fields, grounds, and courts for athletic activities.
  • Performs tasks of painting, irrigation maintenance and spraying.
  • Performs sodding, seeding, trimming, edging, mulching, and similar work in parks and other City grounds.
  • Performs litter control functions and cleans restrooms.
  • Sets up picnic and other areas.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment and performs preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles and equipment.
  • Makes daily written and oral reports.
  • Informs and directs public in the use of facilities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience is preferred. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record is required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  
  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties.
  • Knowledge of groundskeeping practices and principles.
  • Skill in the operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and related tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment required to perform duties.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift up to 80 pounds and climb a ladder up to 15 feet in height. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations. The employee works with hazardous power tools and is exposed to heights up to 15 feet. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
