- 2-3 years of demonstrated secretarial experience
- Experience and desire to work with Veteran and Military-Affiliated population
- Cultural competency as it relates to working with communities of color; LGBTQ+; and other marginalized communities.
The Veterans Services Assistant is a part-time (12 month) position which has administrative and operational responsibilities to the Director of Veterans Services. This position is responsible for duties consistent with the mission of Military & Veterans Services. The Assistant conducts job responsibilities in a manner that supports a departmental atmosphere open to meeting the reasonable expectations of clients and ensuring professional, high quality customer service in a complex and diverse campus community. This role provides support services to students – including prospective students, staff and faculty that serve to enhance and enrich the educational experience of students in a professional manner that adhere to the ethical standards of Kutztown University and the State System of Higher Education.
The Assistant will work with the Director of Military & Veterans Services, graduate assistant, and undergraduate staff, to ensure the safe, successful, and efficient operation of the department. General duties include: Support all essential services provided by Military & Veterans Services. Clerical duties involve significant support to processes, services, activities, and events that are sponsored by the department. Assist with general training and overseeing work responsibilities of undergraduate staff and VA Work-Study students. Work independently within a single operating system, including being the sole employee in the office and/or representing the office at meetings and events such as Open Houses, resource fairs, and public gatherings. Work collaboratively with Director on program administrative support and execution when event is during business hours. Perform specific office functions including generating enrollment and budget reports, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory. Assist with office social media accounts and webpage. Must have varied and proven experience with diverse populations, and be able to relate well to students, staff, faculty, and members of the public with respect and sensitivity to all facets of diversity and multiculturalism. Assist with coordination and implementation of special programs (e.g., Student Organization, Army ROTC). Support alumni and community engagement activities.
The hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 12:45 pm, but there is some flexibility, if needed.
