      The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Communications Specialist in the Parks and Recreation Division.

      This Job Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received.

      This position will be responsible for creating public information to promote Parks and Recreation programs and services; responsible for social media, website layout, press releases/newsletters, and customer service.

      This position may require occasional travel throughout Broward County to work at one of the many Parks and Recreation Division sites. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

      General Description
      Supports the creation and dissemination of public information to promote County programs and services and their value to the community.
      Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

      Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
      Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in journalism, public relations, communications, English, marketing or closely related field.
      (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

      Requires two (2) years in news writing, public/media relations, special event planning, community relations, development of public information programs, marketing, or closely related experience. May require one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience based on area of assignment.

      Preferences
      Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with authority to drive a County vehicle for duration of appointment.
      Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in journalism, public relations, communications, English, marketing or closely related field.
      2+ years experience with Adobe Premiere Pro.
      2+ years experience with Adobe Audition.
      2+ years experience with Photography/Video Production.
      2+ years experience with Social media management.
      Ability to speak foreign language (Spanish, Portuguese, French/Creole).

      Additional Information :

      The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

      Monitors social media activity across agencies and generates daily social media posts; develops weekly content and copy for news release, agency news, publications etc.

      Works with agencies on the development of various marketing and website projects promoting their agency.

      Gives presentations to inform and update the Community regarding the availability of services provided and any changes to accessing those services.

      Plans with community organizations key events to provide resources and services throughout the Community of Broward County.

      Maintains direct contact with health facilities, schools, churches, hotels, business organizations, and homeowners associations as an informational exchange with their employees and the community.

      Provides referrals and service information pertaining to other community providers throughout Broward County.

      Facilitates public education classes and instruction, community presentations and information dissemination using various tools, handouts, and pre- and post-testing materials; networks with senior facilities, support groups and community providers to coordinate and set presentation opportunities; plans and coordinates wellness and health promotion programs.

      Prepares daily log of activities for weekly and monthly reports, including productivity, number of consumers served and tracking of the curriculum presented; prepares and maintains required supporting documentation to generate reports.

      Responds to media inquiries and customer questions/requests, develops media campaigns/press releases; organizes/plans special events; writes/edits brochures/flyers to educate public.

      Performs related work as assigned.

      Physical Demands

      Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

      Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
