      The Portland Art Museum (referred to as Museum) invites applications for the position of Public Engagement & Program Assistant. This role will work with the Head of Public Engagement & Programs and the larger Learning and Community Partnerships team to facilitate a range of public programs and learning opportunities for visitors. The position includes preparing spaces for programs; welcoming and assisting lecturers, artists, and community partners with program set-up and implementation; and engaging and guiding visitors in activities and programs. Provide some administrative support including tracking program attendance, surveying, data entry, and general correspondence.

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities

      • Assist PAM staff with the facilitation of various public engagement activities on event days, including large museum lectures, small gallery talks, artist performances, drop-in art making, and demonstrations.
      • Distributing signage, managing ticket check-in, and guiding visitor flow in galleries and event spaces.
      • Assist the Head of Accessibility in ensuring accessibility offerings are available to all program participants.
      • Promote and support positive personal interactions with the public and museum staff across different departments.
      • Perform general administrative duties including support with program correspondence, scheduling appointments online or in person, and maintaining office documents.
      • Assist in ordering and managing program supplies and equipment.
      • Enter and track data in our systems and assist with project tracking.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned.

      • Skills at managing and prioritizing multiple task simultaneously
      • Computer skills: basic knowledge of Google Suite (e.g. email, calendar, word processing - Google Docs and Google Drive)


      Education, Formal & Informal Experience, Training Required, Certification, Etc.

      • At least 1 year of experience working with the public or in customer service


      Job Conditions

      • Non-Exempt
      • Schedule/Hours: Maximum 18 hours per week and with occasional weekend and evening hours.
      • Onsite/Not Remote
      • Occasional weekend and evening hours
      • On-call status


      Physical Activities

      • Frequently remaining stationary, standing and/or moving about during activities and events
      • Frequently moving between several buildings during events
      • Frequently lift/push/pull up to 30lbs
      • Frequently communicating with staff and visitors

      Benefits

      • This role is non-exempt/hourly and on-call/occasional
      • Budgeted compensation is within pay grade B ($15.95 min - $17.92 mid - $19.91 max), depending on experience
      • Shift differentials, for hourly/non-exempt staff, for hours worked onsite within:
        • Evening hours (6:00 pm-12:00 am) will be paid an additional $1.00 per hour
        • Night hours (12:01 am-6:00 am) will be paid an additional $2.00 per hour
      • Accrued sick time
