The Wilson County Health Department is seeking applicants for a Public Health Nurse I position for the Wilson Area School-Based Health Center (WASH) School Based Health Clinic Program. The Wilson Area School-Based Health Center (WASH) provides accessible and affordable physical and preventive health services to students and staff. WASH is located at Forest Hills Middle, Beddingfield High, Fike High and Hunt High Schools. Any Wilson County Schools student or staff member can be seen by appointment at WASH for wellness or sick visits. The clinic serves both the insured and uninsured. WASH bills private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and has a sliding scale fee for non-insured.
Hours: This is 10 month position that will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, WASH Clinics are open all days that Wilson County Schools are open including all Teacher Workdays. Position will typically be required to work August 15-June 15 and will be placed on LWOP June 16-August 14. Position will not receive a paycheck during the months of July and August, will receive a partial check on June 30 for June 1-15 and will receive pay for August 15-31 and September 1-30 on September 30.
Compensation: The starting salary for a fully qualified Public Health Nurse I starts at $45,420 (based on a 10 month salary). This position is eligible for benefits with Wilson County Government.
*Note: Consideration may be given to hiring this position as full time temporary contract. If hired as full time temporary contract would not be eligible for any benefits with Wilson County. Hourly rate for full time temporary contract hire would start at $30/hour.The primary of purpose of the Public Health Nurse I is to serve as a clinic nurse for the Wilson Area School-Based Health Center (WASH) within the Wilson County Schools. The Public Health Nurse I will provide nursing services, under the guidance of the physician extender to active students and staff enrolled in the designated school. This position will adhere to Public Health Policies/Procedures, Applicable NCAC and General Statutes, as well as programmatic requirements, in addition to school policy. This position requires that a North Carolina Registered Nurse license is current and renewed as required. Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health, will be required to complete the “Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing” course within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule.
MUST BE Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by N.C. Board of Nursing.
