      Location

      The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. Additional days may be necessary depending on organizational needs.

      In this position you can expect to work Monday through Friday. The PIO position includes rotating 24/7 on-call duties.

      What You’ll Do

      Denver International Airport is currently seeking an experienced, Public Information Officer to join the Communications team at DEN. The Communications Team is part of the Global Communications and Marketing Division.

      The Public Information Officer will work directly with airport departments and divisions to develop strategic communication plans and key messaging, create content for and maintain the airport’s social media channels and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. This position will also handle day-to-day media relations including researching issues, interviewing, and preparing subject matter experts as well as crisis communications. This position will be on a rotating on-call schedule with their counterpart, as well as the Manager of External Communications, during which they must be available 24/7. They also must be available during emergencies and work occasional nights and weekends. The position will report to the Manager of External Communications.

      Additional job responsibilities include:

      • Act as a spokesperson for the airport; prepare and respond to media inquiries and interview requests, pitch stories to media and prepare subject matter experts for media interviews.
      • Develop communication plans and strategies for enhanced PR with target audiences and distribute that information to internal and external audiences through a variety of communication channels and develop appropriate communication pieces (press releases, key messages, reports, presentations, fact sheets, etc.), digital content, videos and social media content.
      • Cultivate and manage relationships with the key members of the media including but not limited to reporters, editors, producers, bloggers, and other influencers. Identify and foster relationships with new media partners to expand coverage.
      • Provide crisis management and/or communications during emergency situations, acting as the lead information source to the public and media and work with stakeholders such as police, federal agencies and airlines to coordinate response and messaging.
      • Develop and implement communication content and strategies for social media and other digital assets and social media channels; working with the Digital Communications Specialist and Digital Marketing Specialist, respond to questions and post new content to social media on a weekly basis.
      • Work with our customer service team to assist with customer responses by providing ongoing key messaging, responding to urgent requests and developing a knowledge base for common responses.
      • Conduct research to identify trends, demographics, and issues in communications, marketing and/or public relations; analyzes data in order to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and/or public relations strategies and recommends ways to improve or adjust strategies to management.
      • Develop, coordinate and implement special events and news conferences.
      • Develop content for external and internal audiences; including but not limited to articles for monthly newsletters and the employee app.
      • Draft talking points and messaging for executive leadership and other applicable briefings, reports and more.

      About You

      We are looking for Spanish-speaking candidates with outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse environment. Individuals should have strong research, editing and organizational skills. Ability to speak and write in Spanish is preferred. We are also looking for self-starters who are collaborative, resourceful, and who value building relationships. In addition, we are looking for some or all the following skills and experience:

      • At least four years of experience in communications with proven experience with media
      • relations, social media, writing and executing strategic communications plans and crisis communications.
      • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with experience in writing a variety of
      • communication pieces.
      • Ability to speak and write in Spanish.
      • Proven track record of generating positive earned media.
      • Experience developing relationships with local, state, national and international media.
      • Experience managing crisis communications situations.
      • Experience developing communications plans and programs to support corporate strategies
      • and goals.
      • Experience with developing website content and utilizing social media in a professional
      • setting.
      • Experience managing an organization’s social media channels including monitoring, posting and
      • reporting.
      • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multitask and have a
      • strong attention to detail.
      • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments.
      • Aviation industry experience a plus.

      • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Communications, or a related field (please note, this is not a marketing position)
      • Experience: Four (4) years of full performance, professional level experience performing communications and/or public relations functions including research and analysis, developing public announcements and publications, and developing marketing and/or public relations strategies.
      • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
      • Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
