      The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Public Information Officer to support the Animal Care Division.

      General Description
      Acts as the organization's spokesperson overseeing all public relations, media, advertising and promotions, website, presentations, special events, and community outreach.
      Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

      Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
      Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration or closely related field.

      Requires six (6) years in public relations, public information or media relations in area of assignment including two (2) years of supervisory experience or closely related experience.

      Preferences

      The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

      Develops and implements public outreach strategies for Broward County Animal Care to increase equitable delivery of services, promote public safety, and engage the Broward County community in animal care with emphasis on community sheltering and all programs that make community sheltering possible.

      Develops and maintains an aggressive marketing and public relations strategy for the Animal Care and Adoption Division. Develops and maintains metrics to demonstrate public outreach impacts.

      Builds an extensive, equitable network of social contacts, including all forms of media, representing the diversity of Broward County and engages that network in support of the public outreach strategies and Division goals. Manages the Division social media team and web site.

      Directs and manages corporate and community relations staff; responds to media requests and pitches story idea, acts as lead contact and agency spokesperson for the media; writes press releases, editorials, talking points and speeches.

      Manages advertising campaign for the agency and communicates agency activities; oversees crisis communications; oversees, directs and implements community relations outreach.

      Strategizes marketing efforts and sponsorships with supervisors and executives; oversees section budget; coordinates special events; oversees development of all publications, presentations, videos and materials released to the public; manages social media campaign and the agency web site with up to date and accurate information.

      Coordinates VIP escorts and special requests.

      Administers public outreach programs - markets, promotes, advocates and trains clients in service offerings; maintains knowledge of current events and issues across the organization.

      Performs related work as assigned.

      Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
