      • Starting Salary: $50,252.80
      • After Six Months of Successful Employment: $52,166.40
      • After One Year of Successful Employment: $55,390.40
      • Maximum salary is achieved after three successful years of employment.
      NOTE: Salary amounts above are based on full-time rates.
      NOTE: Annual salary adjustments may also occur based on collective bargaining agreements.
      An employee in this classification in the Department of Public Works performs various work including water main repair, service taps, hydrant and valve repair, water meter services, sanitary and storm sewer services, sign maintenance services, tree service, snow & ice control service, leaf and brush collection services, concrete & asphalt repair services, structure repair services and recreational facilities & grounds maintenance. This employee will operate tractors, dump trucks, trailers and other equipment. The Public Service Worker I may have overtime work as required, is subject to call-in outside normal working hours and performs related duties as assigned.
      By the closing date of this announcement, an applicant must:
      1. Be a Citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States; and
      2. Have a high school diploma or valid equivalency certificate within one year of date-of-hire; and
      3. Have a minimum of one year of paid work experience; and
      4. Be eligible for a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) for, or have a valid Group ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake; and
      5. Have or be eligible for a valid Industrial Truck Driving Permit for operation of a forklift; and
      6. Be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.

      NOTE: An employee in this classification is subject to all requirements of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991, as amended.

      PARTS OF EXAMINATION AND WEIGHTS

      Written Test - 100%

      NOTE: Candidates must pass the written test in order to be placed on the eligible list.
      • Reasonable knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in municipal maintenance and construction
      • Knowledge of occupational safety rules
      • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools
      • Ability to operate light trucks, mowers and tractors
      • Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions
      NOTE: At the time of appointment, applicants are required to pass a pre-employment medical examination conducted by a physician authorized by the City of Livonia.
