      Performs all standard operations of shelving and organizing library materials, assists with patron circulation services.

      Regular hours for this position will be:
      Monday - 5:00pm - 8:00pm
      Wednesday - 4:00pm - 6:00pm
      Alternating Weekends:
      Friday - 4:00pm - 5:30pm
      Saturday - 9:00am - 2:00pm
      Sunday (Sept-May) - 12:00pm - 4:00pm
      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
      (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)
      • Sorts and shelves new and returned materials according to library procedure.
      • Locates materials in order to fill hold requests.
      • Assists with shift change procedures.
      • Assists patrons with locating library materials, using the library catalog, and library technology.
      • Assists with all circulation functions including check-in, check-out, placing holds and trace functions, collecting fines, using the patron database, patron registration, and issuing library cards.
      • Completes other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

      • Actively supports all efforts to increase cooperation, communication, and collaboration between and among staff, library patrons and volunteers.
      • Acknowledges and accepts the Library's mission, respects the Library's confidentiality regulations, and maintains the integrity of the Waukee Public Library.
      • Maintains knowledge of current holdings and library resources, both print and electronic.
      • Seeks to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all library operations with positive and creative approaches to challenges.
      • Demonstrated success in interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and use library software and computer systems effectively.
      • Comfortable working in close proximity to all age categories.
      • Demonstrates sound time-management skills by effectively and efficiently organizing, prioritizing, and completing multiple assignments in a timely manner.
      • Understand and internalize the importance of seeking resolution to problems and concerns by bringing them to the direct attention of supervisor in a timely manner.
      • Be attentive to the City's and the Library's standards for customer service, accuracy, efficiency and all City and Library policies and procedures.
      • Represents the City professionally and effectively to the community and library patrons.
      QUALIFICATIONS
      • High school diploma or general educational development (GED), or currently in pursuit thereof.
      • Must be 16 years of age or older.
      • Library or related customer service experience preferred.
      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
      • Required to move or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
      • Ability to push and pull up to 50 pounds
      • Constant reaching, handling, dexterity, near sight acuity, and concentration.
      • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, depth perception, field of vision and judgement.
      • Ability to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic and handwritten) in English with other employees, library patrons, and the community.
      WORKING CONDITIONS:
      • Climate-controlled office with hazards typical of that environment, minimal outdoor work is required.
      • Standard work hours include evenings and weekends.
