      The role

      • The Production Manager will be responsible for the individual success of each P roduction Specialist in their Expert team and support them with meeting their targets set for their area and journals

      • The Production Manager will serve as a strategic, expert publishing leader, working closely with the Journal Managers to create an outstanding experience for customers

      Key Responsibilities

      • Responsible for collaboration and ongoing improvements with typesetting partners

      • Responsible for leading and sponsoring department projects

      • Responsible for suggesting process optimi s ation and driving continuous improvement, as well as ensuring alignment to our policies and priorities among specialists

      • Hiring and leading the onboard training of their specialists

      • Training and guiding their team of Production Specialists on using the Expert Playbook

      • Serving as the escalation point when expert execution challenges arise

      • Escalating resource issues to their Portfolio Manager

      • Communicating with typesetters regarding continuous improvement and journal performance

      • Continuous work on Production and Typesetting guidelines to ensure optimal and streamline results

      • Responsible for journal publication success – publication speed, quality of final production and publication volume.

      • Responsible for the individual Specialist success in their expert team by setting targets based on mutually agreed improvements over average historical performance

      • Collaborating with the Journal Manager to develop an annually revised Journal Strategic Plan and an annually revised Section Journal Strategic Plan for each field and section journal

      • Collaborate with Publishing Managers in Research Integrity and Peer Review to optimize the production workflows

      • Support projects aiming for customer satisfaction increase (NPS and CSAT)

      Requirements / Knowledge

      Business expertise :

      • Ability to manage all phases of the production process (copyediting, formatting, proofing, validating online PDF and XML/HTML formats)

      • Knowledge of the Open Access publishing landscape

      Technical skills :

      • Ability to track and maintain data pertaining to key production metrics and targets

      • Proficient in Salesforce functionality

      • Proficient in Tableau reporting and functionality

      Additional skills :

      • People management skills

      • Project management skills

      • Delegation skills

      Abilities / Competencies / Soft Skills :

      • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

      • Time management skills

      • A positive and productive approach when facing challenges

      • Sound and mature judgement; decisive and tactful when working with multiple stakeholders, internally and externally

      • Comfortable working independently, highly organized with a good track record of meeting deadlines

      Experience & Education :

      • Established experience working in scientific publishing, ideally within production.

      • Ability to quickly and accurately manage large volumes of information and to take timely corrective actions to resolve bottlenecks.

      • Previous line management experience would be an advantage.

      • Experience in mark-up languages (Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and InDesign) would be an advantage.
