      Python Developer - Rater Delivery

      How you will create an impact

      The North America Rater Delivery Team within Global Pricing – Actuarial develops commercial rating solutions for underwriting teams within AIG, while supporting strategic initiatives within the actuarial team.

      The North America Rater Delivery Team works alongside international counterparts, Product Actuaries, Underwriters, and the other teams within Global Pricing (Modelling and Analytics, Pricing MI and Pricing Effectiveness) to provide a comprehensive approach to pricing and portfolio optimization.

      The team supports AIG’s North America Commercial lines of business.

      We are seeking an actuarial professional to develop python based pricing tools. This unique role offers a range of responsibilities and provides the opportunity to engage and partner with actuarial colleagues, IT, Operations, the Data Office, and Chief Underwriting Officers. We are looking for an individual who is internally motivated, intellectually curious, can manage multiple priorities, and is driven to enhance existing processes.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Implement complicated actuarial models on the python based hyperexponential (hx) Rating Platform.
      • Enhance common modules to ease the rater build process.
      • Upskilling of product actuaries to scale up the rater delivery model.
      • Support Product Actuaries in developing, building, and enhancing pricing tools used across the North America commercial platform.
      • Support projects utilizing Agile planning approaches, apply rigorous coding standards in reviewing the work of others and managing junior resources.
      • Work closely with the Product Actuaries, Modelers, Underwriters, Business Leads, and Chief Underwriting Officers to implement efficiencies to pricing tools and raters.
      • Assist in developing segment specific algorithm design, actuarial code review, testing and test reporting.
      • Supervise and train junior staff.

      What we are looking for

      • BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area
      • 7 years or more in commercial lines pricing preferred
      • Five years of relevant experience, particularly in development and maintenance of python based systems
      • Proficient in coding in Python – understanding of coding techniques (abstraction, design patterns, unit testing) and CI/CD tooling and processes to ensure high quality results
      • Proficiency with Git and GitHub as part of a collaborative development workflow, including pull requests, conflict resolution, code review workflows and branch management.
      • Experience with testing frameworks (pytest, unittest)
      • Experience in Technical Delivery using Agile methodology
      • Familiarity transforming and analyzing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured (JSON) data
      • Expertise in Excel, SQL, VBA, JavaScript or other programming languages will be useful
      • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
      • Work well both independently and as part of a team
      • Able to lead cross functional projects independently
      • Strong business and collaboration skills, and responsive to service needs and operational demands
      • Effective time management skills
      • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
      • Customer focused
