Job Description

Assisting in the development and maintenance of test documentation including test plans, test cases, test reports, and summary documents.
Learning to apply appropriate testing methods for different system components.
Helping to define and refine acceptance criteria based on requirements or existing system behaviour.
Executing test cases, logging defects, and supporting the analysis and re-testing of issues.
Working as part of an agile team to help maintain quality across each release.
Supporting the creation and improvement of regression test suites for various MPS components such as:
Flight Performance Models
Mission Planning Applications
Vehicle Installer Packages and more
Gaining exposure to test automation tools and contributing to test automation strategies (e.g., using Ranorex).
Assisting with test environment setup and contributing to system analysis for quality assurance.
Around 1–2 years’ experience in software testing or QA roles.
An understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Exposure to writing or executing test cases.
Familiarity with developing or reviewing test documentation.
Some experience working in an agile or team-based environment.
Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
A keen eye for detail, with a structured and methodical approach.
Willingness to learn and grow with the support of experienced mentors.
Australian citizenship and an NV1 clearance (or ability to obtain one).
ISTQB Foundation Certification or similar.
Basic experience with automated testing tools.
Familiarity with Microsoft-based development environments.
Exposure to both new and existing systems/projects.
Awareness of software quality standards (e.g., IEEE or MIL standards).

The Opportunity:
Location: Canberra
KBR are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Software Tester to join a project team delivering the Mission Planning System (MPS) to the Australian Defence Force. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career (1–2 years of experience) who’s keen to build their skills in software testing and quality assurance while working on a meaningful Defence project.
