      The Quality Analyst position will work in coordination with the Hospital Quality Program Manager to strengthen the hospital’s quality outcomes reporting, and improvement activities. The Quality Analyst will work on projects to comply with a number of external reporting mandates and improvement initiatives from state and federal regulators and to support clinical initiatives in special populations such as stroke patients or surgical patients. In addition, s/he will be responsible for data display and interpretation, and the reporting of this data to a range of clinical and administrative leaders and stakeholder. Extensive, frequent interaction with the Hospital quality program manager and Chief Medical Officer as well as Hospital Leadership and staff is a key component of this role. The Quality Analyst must be able to coordinate multiple projects and improvement activities and deadlines simultaneously.

      • Supports hospital personnel and service chiefs in facilitating quality improvement projects relating to regulatory mandates. The Quality Analyst is the content expert on federal and state regulatory and accreditation requirements relating to mandated reporting and quality improvement projects. The Quality Analyst communicates requirements of the quality reporting and improvement process to hospital committees and staff and assists in identifying barriers to implementing improvement plans. The Quality Analyst develops strategies to overcome identified barriers utilizing data collection and study methodology.
      • Assists hospital staff in developing the analytic and measurement strategy for quality improvement projects as directed by the Hospital quality program manager.
      • Participates in data collection and data entry activities to support, as directed, reporting to The Joint Commission, Leapfrog, CMS’s National Hospital Quality Program, Massachusetts’ Department of Public Health, MassHealth reporting measures, and American College of Surgeons quality measurement and reporting requirements. Individual assignment of reporting duties may vary as hospital needs dictate.
      • Participates in ad hoc medical record chart reviews as the primary means of investigating quality trends; works with the Hospital quality program manager, physician leaders, and Nurse Directors to summarize findings, develop recommendations for corrective actions or improvement projects as needed, and track the impact of implemented changes.
      • Works with Directors, department quality leaders/representatives and Chiefs to develop annual quality measurement and improvement plans, including identification of measures to be tracked locally versus centrally. Acts as a resource to departmental quality leaders and Chiefs in utilizing Brigham and Women’s and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital data sources.
      • Establishes effective and collaborative working relationships with members of the hospital community, clinical departments, administrative departments, hospital committees, and quality and safety staff across the Mass General Brigham.
      • Keeps current with data abstraction specifications, emerging trends in hospital quality and reporting initiatives, and integrates key concepts into work.
      • All other duties as assigned.

      • Undergraduate degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health or similar/related clinical field preferred
      • Master’s Degree, or 2-5 years relevant work experience, preferred
      • Experience in management of quality measurement and/or improvement, patient safety, or health science research required
      • Relevant experience preferred in using one or more performance improvement strategies such as IHI’s Rapid Cycle Testing, Reliability Theory, GE’s Change Acceleration Process in quality improvement and project management work. Previous project management experience preferred.
      • Demonstrated proficiency in data management relating to external regulatory requirements and vendors (DPH, ACS, CMS, TJC) preferred
      • Expertise in the manipulation and management of clinical data bases, including skill in conceptualizing and building reports for special reviews
      • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently
      • Excellent communication and follow up accompanied by the ability to analyze and present data in a way to influence and change behavior as needed to drive safety and quality for patient care
      • Creativity and enthusiasm for developing and implementing new programs
      • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
      • Comfortable interacting with an array of administrative and clinical staff, ranging from the Chief Medical Officer and department Chairs, to frontline care providers
      • Experience with performance improvement methods
      • Project management skills with experience in planning, facilitating, and organizing improvement teams
      • Strong analytic skills and comfort with interpretation of statistical data
      • Highly confidential data and medical records materials require extreme discretion
      • Ability to meet strict timelines
      • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications), with ability to utilize spreadsheet and graphic programs to produce graphs and charts, are required for this position
      • Solid report-writing skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex data in a clear and understandable fashion to hospital leadership
