      As a Quality Assurance Specialist in the Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Directorate, Exploration Ground Systems Division, Quality Assurance Branch (SA-F4), you will be responsible for administering, evaluating, and coordinating a comprehensive quality assurance program. Additionally, you will perform Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), assessments/audits, final acceptance of flight hardware, receiving inspections, and review of Acceptance Data Packs.

      Duties


      • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
      • Assesses existence, adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of the contractor's Quality Management Systems activities.
      • Participates in working groups for the Program, Agency, and other government organizations in the development of aerospace systems, quality assurance guidelines, and SMA directives in support of assigned programs and projects.
      • Collaborates with quality engineering to establish a feasible quality program and develops assessment processes using tools such as surveillance, sampling, audits, audit checklists, and other methodologies necessary.
      • Verifies contractor’s products/services comply with contract requirements and products are produced per design documentation, drawings, and specifications while maintaining good working relations with contractor counterparts.
      • Reviews and approves contractor’s plans and procedures for compliance with quality assurance requirements, resolves contractors' problems of interpreting and conforming to NASA policies and standards.
      • Performs Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), final acceptance of flight hardware, receiving inspections, audits/assessments, and review of Acceptance Data Packs.
      • Performs Procurement Quality Assurance verifying contractor compliance with contracts, Statements of Work, and engineering/quality requirements.

      • This is a bargaining unit position - American Federation of Government Employees - Local 513.

      Qualifications


      Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

      To qualify for GS-09 level, you must have:
      a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level:
      • Utilizing quality assurance/control methods, principles, or practices to assist with the verification of contract, statement of work, or
        engineering/quality requirements;
      • Assisting with data gathering activities relating to quality assurance/control investigations and problem solving;
      • Supporting inspections associated with manufacturing, assembly, and testing;
      OR
      b) Completed all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field
      OR
      c) Completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field
      OR
      d) LL. B or J.D, if related
      OR
      e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above

      To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
      a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
      • Participating in quality assurance/control audits to identify nonconformance or deficiencies;
      • Documenting quality observations or findings and addressing corrective actions;
      • Performing inspections and assessing processes associated with manufacturing, assembly, and testing;
      OR
      b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field
      OR
      c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field
      OR
      d) LL.M., if related
      OR
      e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above
