      Basic Job Functions:

      The role of the Quality Engineer includes but is not limited to:

      • Develop, execute and successfully maintain a quality management system and any applicable quality certifications
      • Provide guidance in applying the requirements of the quality management system (QMS)
      • Leads the Internal Audit process
      • Audits, qualifies and monitors performance of external vendors, contractors or suppliers
      • Creation, interpretation and submission of Quality related documentation (CQI, APQP, FMEA, PPAP, QCP, etc.)
      • Interaction with customers and supplier representatives on technical/quality matters.
      • Completes 8D’s, implements Corrective Actions, and performs Effectiveness Evaluations.
      • Perform process capability (CP, CPK), process performance (PP, PPK) analysis, and assist in interpreting GRR’s.
      • Apply Lean Six Sigma tools to improve process capability, eliminate defects, along with implementing/generating Quality KPIs, and reviewing trends to develop action plans.

      Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

      This position will be based at our St. Joe, IN facility with 25% travel expected.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Technical Degree in a related field (e.g., Automotive Management/Engineering, Industrial, Metallurgical, Materials, or Mechanical) or Certified Quality Engineer

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience in quality, operations or manufacturing in the steel or automotive industry
      • Knowledge & Application of IATF 16949
      • Formal metallurgical education, metals heat treating experience and/or metallic products failure analysis
      • Working experience with advanced product quality planning (APQP), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and structural problem solving (8D, 5 whys)
      • Six Sigma/Lean Certification
      • Skilled at root cause and effect analysis
