Overview
The position is responsible for creating and assuring compliance of federally regulated product label information, including nutrition, ingredient declarations, allergens and claims. This role also addresses regulatory issues pertaining to food labeling and claims. As well, supporting the development of product specification. The Quality Specialist manages several projects at once while working across all functions (marketing, R&D, legal, supply chain and quality) and communicates on labeling & specifications related and compliance matters for General Mills.Key Responsibilities
Labeling & Regulatory Compliance:
• Provide food labelling expertise and communicate cross functionally regarding current and emerging food labelling issues and opportunities.
• Address emerging regulatory issues pertaining to food labelling and ensure compliance with current and evolving regulations.
• Work across functional teams to assure compliance with local regional regulatory standards, third-party certification standards, and company policies.Develop and maintain accurate food labelling information for finished products (e.g. allergens, nutrition, ingredient statements, product name, claims) to assure compliance with federal Mexican regulations (NOM, COFEPRIS, SAGARPA, PROFECO, SE).
• Maintain complete ingredient and certificate in respective databases and ensure they reflect quality and regulatory attributes.Complete and submit documentation to support regulatory requirements and claims (regulatory requirements, import/export) and interact with regulators and/or third-party agencies as necessary.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations, relevant technical product and processing information, industry trends and best food labelling practices.
• Contribute to, review and approve artwork, packaging, graphics and text of existing and proposed product labels to ensure accuracy, consistency, and regulation compliance.
• Develop and inform communication for consumer and customer inquiries pertaining to labelling.
• Collaborate to manage regulatory, food safety, litigation, brand and third-party risk for General Mills products and businesses and provide input into risk management decisions, balancing regulatory risk with business and operational needs.Proactively manage communication of product reformulations and sourcing changes to minimize the potential business impact for México and North LATAM.
Specifications:
• Work with a cross functional team to ensure specifications are complete, accurate, consistent, and are released in a timely fashion
• Serve as one point of contact for all specification needs and lead early management activities
• Maintain accuracy and complete updates of all specifications
• Maintain procedures for the creation and distribution of specificationsQualifications/Skills/Experience
BS in Food Technology/Science Degree or related discipline (Engineering/Business Administration).
Experience in the food industry and product specifications.
Knowledge of Mexican Food regulations related to additives, labeling, packaging.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal) and influencing skills.
Good interpersonal skills capable of communicating with different countries and teams.
Able to work on a variety of different projects and prioritize appropriately.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point).
Able to work independently and still support team in other functional areas.Overview
