      The Opportunity

      WestEd’s Division 3 is seeking a Research Associate I to manage and develop analytic datasets, conduct quantitative analyses, and assist in the designing of educational research studies. The Research Associate I will work on a team to identify necessary data elements needed to conduct educational studies; collect, clean, and analyze data; and help in writing reports for technical and non-technical audiences. Position can be located in New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, or a home office.

      WestEd is a non-profit research, development, and service agency dedicated to promoting equity and excellence in education and to improving outcomes for children, youth, and adults, especially those who are least well-served by current systems. Drawing on the best knowledge from research and practice, WestEd's more than 1,000 staff members work with practitioners, scholars, policy makers, and community members to address education's most critical issues, from early childhood intervention to school-to-work transition, and from curriculum, instruction, and assessment to school safety.

      WestEd’s Division 3 staff conduct applied research using a wide range of research methods, from data for improvement in formative cycles to large-scale experimental studies. Current areas of substantive focus include college readiness, postsecondary transitions, teacher preparation, and mathematics teaching and learning.

      Responsibilities:

      • Receiving, checking, and managing large and complex educational datasets to ensure that they are ready and appropriate for analysis.
      • Carrying out both simple and complex data analyses using statistical software such as SAS (preferred).
      • Conceptualizing and developing research studies based on available data.
      • Assisting in the writing of reports intended to impact the decisions of educational policymakers and practitioners.
      • Conducting data visualization to help make results more accessible to broad audiences.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as statistics, economics, or education, with specific coursework in quantitative methods, evaluation, and/or data analysis.
      • Experience programming in at least one major statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, or Stata) required (SAS strongly preferred).
      • Experience of data collection and data processing, including procedures for data quality control.
      • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills.
      • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and to treat colleagues and clients respectfully.

      SALARY AND BENEFITS:

      The full salary range for this position, WestEd level F, is $74,080 to $111,100 but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $74,080 to $92,600. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors including but not limited to education; experience; internal equity, and other organizational needs.

      In addition to the base salary, benefits include:

      · 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment

      · All health/welfare benefits are effective first of the month following hire date

      · PTO: 3 weeks vacation (increases to 4 weeks beginning the 4th year of employment), paid holidays, and 12 days paid sick leave per year
