Until Filled WORK DAY/YEAR: Full-time, temporary, position, Quarry Hill Teacher / Naturalist position available from August 21, 2023 - June 3, 2024 - Develop, prepare and teach K-7 school science and environmental education classes
- Perform other tasks as necessary in the operation of the Nature Center
- Current Minnesota Teaching License
- Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and/or the sciences
- Experience in environmental education programs or related area.
- Background in ornithology, entomology, herpetology, botany, and/or other Natural Science areas
- Experience in planning and preparing field studies and activities.
- Outdoor experience canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, camping, etc.
- Comfort working with and handling live animals including: birds, reptiles, invertebrates
- Able to communicate effectively with an audience in a wide age range -Preschool to adult
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel and overall computer literacy
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings for special events
- Commitment to the mission, vision and core values of Quarry Hill Nature Center and Rochester Public Schools.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (i.e., daily outdoor hiking, rock climbing, lift 50 pounds).
- Currently hold certification in child and adult CPR and basic first aid or willingness to become certified.
- Desire and ability to be sub permitted under the Federal Bird Banding Program
- Currently hold a MN CDL class C driver’s license or willingness to become licensed

REPORTS TO: Quarry Hill Executive Director
SALARY:This position is shared employment between Rochester Public Schools and the Friends of Quarry Hill. The salary includes (.5) FTE for 192 days, based upon educational background and teaching experience, and an hourly rate, determined by the Friends of Quarry Hill, to bring the position to a full-time salary.
