The Associate Chemist position in our General Industrial division that is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new technologies and new platforms in our high-performance coatings.
Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Employee may be required to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 55 lbs. on occasion with reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
• Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
• Must have the ability to work with a variety of chemicals safely, in a laboratory environment.
• Demonstrated ability working with various types of equipment safely
Experience working with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 1-2 years of professional coatings formulation experience or a combination of academic lab and or Internships /Co-op experience, with experience in Powder coating
• Strong color matching skills in solid shade and effect coatings
• Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
• Ability to travel to customer sites or internal manufacturing plants
• Experience working with DOE, Minitab, Product Vision, Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
• 4 year Bachelor’s degree of Science in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or related field.Travel Requirements: 10%

Responsibilities
• Working closely with a mentor chemist developing, reformulating, maintaining and enhancing products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results, in a high-pace work environment.
• Performing basic paint making processes
• Performing basic coating formulations, applications and physical/performance testing methods
• Providing timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development
• Display a basic working knowledge of the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrate preparation and use instruments commonly found in a lab environment
• Responsible for inputting data, data analysis and technical documentation daily into lab books or a database.
• Functioning under substantial supervision but may lead individual or group projects. Product development and/or enhanced with consistent in performance and quality.
• Utilizing advanced technologies to develop products that demonstrate improvements and difference that consumer can perceive and will desire.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Application and troubleshooting of general industrial coatings
