- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Basic math skills
- Ability to interact effectively with various levels of the technical organization
- Polymer synthesis experience
- Experience operating a variety of laboratory equipment
- Experience ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures, rules, and regulations
- Experience prioritizing daily project tasks
- Experience solving problems and recommending solutions
- Performs polymer synthesis and material characterization in support of platform and product development goals.
- Polymer synthesis includes but is not limited to epoxies, polyesters and acrylics; both water borne and solvent borne
- Willingness to develop and grow expertise in statical modeling / DOE
- Assists with developing and adjusting product compositions, creates prototypes and applies understanding of polymer principles and practices. May assist with the development and scale up of production formulas
- Assists with analyzing, evaluating, and selecting raw materials
- Assists with developing reports and documents detailing tests, project status, and overall results
- Give presentations that review progress to internal customers and stakeholders
- Operates, cleans, and calibrates a variety of equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
The Performance Coatings Group is looking for a highly motivated associate chemist to join the polymer team for packaging coatings. The associate chemist will be involved in polymer synthesis, efficient operation of the lab, general housekeeping, ensuring a safe work environment and will independently perform tasks as outlined by the supervisor/manager. This position is based in Pittsburgh PA.
