Lead process development related work streams for on time and in full delivery of regional innovation, renovation, quality improvement and cost optimization projects.
Develop and refine processing specifications from scale up through commercialization
Supports the experimental production of products in the pilot plant, Unilever factories, and contract manufacturers. Issues trial reports and updates stakeholders as appropriate.
Collects and directs pilot plant and manufacturing data, statistically interprets results and proposes scientifically sound next steps (with appropriate assistance and support).
Prepares and reviews engineering documents (Equipment specs, process flow diagrams, etc.) for key projects and collaborates with raw material/equipment suppliers to ensure best practice designs.
Supports commercialization of new products during launch, monitoring and improving process capability of the factory to consistently deliver products within specifications.
Employs fundamental engineering principles to troubleshoot and continuously improve processing of Unilever products.
Collaborates with the Global R&D Processing teams to adapt technologies for NA and roll out global process improvement and digital processing initiatives.
Supports the pilot plant safety, food safety and waste reduction programs.
Opportunity to support product development workstreams if in line with the candidate’s career development plan.
Partners with Supply Chain in the factory waste reduction program leading critical waste reduction workstreams.
Minimum of B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering or relevant scientific related field of study.
2+ years of relevant processing or engineering experience, preferably in the food industry.
Experience operating in regulations (such as FDA), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) as well as Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
Possess basic technical knowledge of processing and scale up in foods a plus.
Strong digital background in MS Office (Outlook, OneDrive, Excel) and/or other analytical tool.
SAP (Product Lifecycle Management), and other related specification systems is a plus
Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills within cross-functional teams and with outside customers.
Ability to independently execute tasks and projects with low to moderate complexity.
Working knowledge of experimental design, root cause analysis and problem solving techniques.
Strong curiosity to challenge the status quo and research new and differentiated opportunities
Background & Purpose of the Job
Unilever is looking for a talented Process Engineer to support our Ice Cream R&D category based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Ice Cream is a fun, exciting, and fast paced category which covers many product formats under many leading brands such as Breyer’s, Talenti, Klondike, Good Humor and Popsicle. As a member of the R&D team you will be designing and executing the development of new and reformulated products within the North American Ice Cream program.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
As a Process Engineer in the Ice Cream R&D Program, you will support specific technical deliverables that are part of different projects run by Technical Project Leaders (TPL) within a broader R&D team and lead the R&D contributions to the factory waste reduction program.
You’re a dot connector: The position works in conjunction with broader R&D teams including: Product Developers, Packaging Engineers, CTI (Consumer Technical Insights), Microbiology, Material Experts, Data & Digital, Nutrition, Label Compliance and Technical Project Leaders (TPLs).
You love to win, and have fun doing it: The position also requires external (equipment and raw material suppliers) and international (Global Design and Global Processing Teams) communication.
You’re a story teller: The position requires adapting technical information to communicate results with other cross-functional team members including manufacturing, marketing, planning, procurement, customer development as well as others.
You’re a paradox navigator: The position requires application of technical knowledge and scientific methodologies including process scale up, experimental design, analytical methods, statistical procedures as well as data analysis.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
Pay: The pay range for this position is $67,000 to $100,500. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
