- Explore and develop new surface treatment technologies
- Characterize surfaces through both analytical testing and functional sequencing assays
- Support creation and transfer of processes and protocols to manufacturing
- Join product development teams crafting innovative platforms and solutions for our customers
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field OR
- MS/BS in these fields with at least 3/6 years of proven experience
- Proven track record working in a wet laboratory setting with industry standard tools
- Hands-on experience in surface chemistry and the functionalization of silicon, glass, and metal oxide surfaces
- Experience with sophisticated and/or automated laboratory equipment
- Experience in process development and documentation
- Firsthand experience with a variety of surface characterization techniques
- Effective communication skills in writing, presentation, and conversation
- Ability to collaborate and connect with colleagues across various backgrounds
- Self-starter mentality and experimental curiosity
- Phenomenal problem-solving skills
- Proficient with experimental data analysis and basic statistical methods to drive decision making
- Knowledge of molecular biology or DNA sequencing technologies would be a definite plus

You will join a diverse team of scientists and engineers in the Sensor and Chemistry Technology Group that together develops the sensor system at the heart of the Ion Torrent Next-Generation Sequencing technology. Only a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team like ours can work across several fields and technologies to deliver an exciting, semiconductor-based biosensor platform that impacts society daily. Together, we drive innovation and process improvements for the surface chemistry of our chip technology, ensure system-level integration, and deliver those solutions to manufacturing and our customers.

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $100,000.00–$125,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
