- Interface with stake holders and engineering staff to make sure that high and low level requirements and relevant specifications are captured and understood.
- Understands risk associated with building complex Astronomical systems. This is to include using risk tables and addressing risk and putting a mitigation strategy in place.
- Make sure that V&V (Verification and Validation) and I&T (Integration and Test) plans are developed for all designs. Review and ensure that reliability and quality standards are appropriate for meeting both high and low level requirements.
- Attend engineering and stakeholder meetings to make sure that all avenues of the system are being captured. Have the ability to lead investigations into issues and concerns with the design and function of the system. Lead discussions of requirements, V&V (Verification and Validation), and I&T (Integration and Test) plans.
- Bachelor's degree in Systems/Industrial Engineering or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Strong background in Finite Element Analysis.

The candidate will work on high level documentation such as the Requirements document, and all lower-level requirement documents that establish the baseline design of the subsystem. The candidate must have good communication skills and be able to represent the engineering team in a professional manner both internally and externally to Steward Observatory. The candidate is expected to be a motivated self-starter who can work with and lead engineers to resolve technical problems and establish approaches for solutions.
