      Job purpose

      The R&D lab technician is responsible for assisting the assigned scientist in all areas of R&D. The technician may also assist other departments on a technical basis as needed.

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities

      Record keeping of all studies, experiments, formulas, sample preparation, and any other recordable research data.

      Chemical testing of potato products including but not limited to moisture, sulfite, salt, sugars, and fats.

      Sample preparation and documentation maintenance related to shelf-life studies.

      Assist in new product development or improvement.

      Sample shipping and receiving.

      Sample preparation using weights and percentages.

      Conduct or assist in product cuttings and trainings.

      Support QA in product quality monitoring of both existing and new products.

      Stock and monitor lab ingredients and samples.

      Keep work area clean and organized.

      Communicate well with others including sales and vendors.

      Carry out all other duties assigned by VP, Director, and/or Scientist/Engineer.

      Qualifications/Required Skills

      Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s or AS degree not required but preferred. If no degree is possessed, then a minimum of 2 years’ experience in R&D or Quality related field in the food industry is required. Potato processing industry experience (dry/refrigerated/frozen) preferred. Must have excellent math skills.

      Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and compose instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Spanish language a plus.

      Reasoning Ability: Possess good analytical, quantitative, communication, problem solving, and technical skills. Be able to creatively apply experience, common sense, and a strategic and economical business perspective to a variety of situations, processes, and people. Has the ability to manage several projects concurrently. Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy and work independently and professionally both individually and in a team environment.

      Computer Skills: Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

      Work Environment

      The work environment is a research lab with little if any travel involved. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Individual must be capable of carrying up to 50 lbs. while traveling. Must be flexible to occasionally work overtime.
