San José Unified’s Ramp Up Extended School Year (ESY) teacher positions are excellent opportunities for staff to expand their professional practice while assisting students in developing their math skills.

This will be an in-person support model for our students who have met certain criteria to be placed in a CCSS aligned enrichment course. There will be a Ramp Up to Algebra and Ramp Up to Geometry. Both programs are hosted at Gunderson High School.

Ramp Up will be four days per week June 3-June 27 (no school on Fridays for weeks 1-2 and 4. No school on June 19 during week 3) 8:30am – 2:00pm each day. This time period includes 280 instructional minutes, two 10-minute breaks, and a 30-minute non-duty lunch. Certificated staff are expected to be on campus 30 minutes prior to the start of instruction. We ask that staff work the entire four weeks to ensure consistent support for our students.

Ramp Up teachers will be paid a 1.0 FTE for each day worked, which equals their 2023-24 daily rate multiplied by 1.0. This rate assumes preparation and planning takes place outside of the instructional day, similar to the regular school year.

This opportunity is available to current employees who are credentialed in math. You will be selected based on student and subject area needs. Please submit your application by March 15, 2024. If you have questions on the status of your application, please contact Melitta Nerhood ( mnerhood@sjusd.org).
