      Job Description

      About the Role

      • Responsible for day-to-day operation of the Library’s Copy Center. Provides access to the Library’s rare and secondary holdings through direct capture, photocopying, scanning, and delivery services for readers, staff, and offsite users.

      • Regularly work with curatorial and other Library staff, and researchers. Serves as technical lead for the copy center’s scanning/direct capture equipment.

      • Helps coordinate the Library’s Virtual Reading Room service for remote researchers and fills shifts in the Ahmanson Reading Room as needed.

      • Shifts on Saturdays and late hours may be required. Reports to Assistant Access Services Librarian.

      S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

      Essential Duties

      • Coordinates day-to-day operations of the Library’s Copy Center and fulfillment of photo orders for Library materials in all formats. Ensures quality control and adherence to generally accepted standards of library duplication.

      • Performs direct capture, post-processing, and delivery of image files in a timely and efficient manner upholding standards and quality of service.

      • Coordinates handoff of orders and projects to Digital Collections and Imaging Services to ensure delivery of assets to internal destinations (DAMS). Ensures upload of material to DAMS.

      • Responds to inquiries regarding status of photoduplication requests.

      • Works with the Reader Services Coordinators to manage, calendar, and facilitate Virtual Reading Room sessions.

      • Staffs services points such as the Ahmanson Reading Room.

      Administrative

      • Responsible for statistical recordkeeping and report generation. Assists with the departmental annual report.

      • Oversees operation and maintenance of photocopying, microfilm readers, and scanning or direct capture equipment.

      • Creates and maintains documentation for copy center operations. Helps determine service levels, processes, and policies.

      • Tracks circulation of materials to the copy center. Ensures accuracy in Aeon.

      Candidate Requirements and Experience

      Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

      • Working knowledge of photography and digital imaging. Experience with DSLRs, Adobe Suite, embedded metadata, studio lighting and safety.

      • General office skills, database management skills, solid knowledge of common office computer applications (Microsoft Suite).

      • Must be accurate, organized, and detail-oriented, with aptitude for detailed clerical tasks in both paper and electronic environment.

      • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service orientation.

      Preferred:

      • AA degree or higher preferred.

      • Understanding of reference and library service workflows.
