      POSITION TITLE: READING INTERVENTIONIST

      QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Arkansas teacher licensure in P4, K-6,1-6 or

      Reading Specialist Certification
      Master’s Degree in Reading (preferred)
      Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience

      REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

      JOB GOAL: To provide reading instruction through the basics of reading and literacy ranging from alphabet identification, decoding, encoding and correct word pronunciation to improving vocabulary, spelling knowledge, and summary techniques. Also, initiate literary discussions and teach importance of understanding literacy devices


      PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
      1. Have an understanding of the science of reading as well as an in-depth understanding of phonics and phonological awareness to support emerging/struggling readers.
      2. Assist struggling intermediate readers to decode multi-syllabic words and have a basis for understanding the English language.
      3. Provide specialized instruction under the supervision of a licensed dyslexia therapist/interventionist for students identified with characteristics of dyslexia as set by Arkansas state requirements.
      4. Attend and complete professional development required for dyslexia interventionist per district requirements.
      5. Provide support services for students experiencing reading difficulties in small-group settings.
      6. Observe emerging/struggling readers in the classroom, upon request.
      7. Assist classroom teachers in the identification of students with reading difficulties.
      8. Maintain accurate records of assessment, progress monitoring and interventions.
      9. Communicate intervention progress to RTI Teams.
      10. Implement designated reading system that guides reading, writing, and spelling instruction, reading intervention and instruction.
      11. Analyze data and determine instructional needs for all schools within feeder pattern area to personalize Academic Intervention Plans (AIP).
      12. Implement a remediation plan for students needing reading instruction.
      13. Plan and conduct periodic evaluations to assess the need for updates in the reading program.
      14. Administer norm-referenced assessments for students approved for Level II testing for characteristics of dyslexia.
      15. Collaborate with district program administrators to implement and prescriptive instruction based on curriculum.
      16. Work collaboratively with building administration and central office staff.
      17. Implement the PCSSD desegregation plan.
      18. Know Board of Education policies, District and school guidelines and regulations and adhere to the same.
      19. Additional duties as assigned.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

      Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule. Placement depends upon education and experience.Length of Contract: 190 days per contract year
