      Summary

      Procures cost effective wholesale power for SRP retail load on a "next hour" basis. Sells wholesale power to other utilities and power marketers on a "next hour" basis. Identifies, negotiates and executes wholesale purchases and associated sales when opportunities for arbitrage exit. Coordinates generating unit commitment plans to optimize the use of acquired gas supply while minimizing fuel and purchased power expenses. Identifies and secures cost effective transmission paths to facilitate wholesale power transactions. Coordinates emergency actions related to wholesale power transactions. Complies with all applicable FERC, WECC, and NERC policies and standards, including the exchange of electronic tagging information (ETAGS) with all counterparties.

      What You'll Do

      • Evaluates the daily generation plan for meeting SRP retail load, and procures wholesale power supplies to improve plan economics.
      • Identifies energy that is surplus to SRP's retail need and markets that energy on a next hour basis.
      • Negotiates with other utilities and marketers to buy and sell wholesale power.
      • Identifies and procures cost effective transmission paths to facilitate wholesale power transactions.
      • Manages the daily plan for generating unit commitment to optimize the use of SRP's gas supply.
      • Coordinates emergency actions relating to wholesale power transactions with generation dispatchers.
      • Updates the same-day load forecast.
      • Provides data and computations in response to management's request for information beyond that supplied in the normal course of business.
      • Identifies, negotiates and executes wholesale purchases and associated sales when opportunities for arbitrage exist.
      • Complies with applicable FERC and WECC requirements regarding energy transactions.
      • In accordance with NERC policy, exchanges electronic tagging information (ETAGS) with all counterparties.

      What It Takes To Succeed

      **Completion of Power Plant Control Room Operator Training may substitute for the education requirement.**

      Experience

      A minimum of two years of directly relevant experience is required for entry level. Minimum 5 years experience is required for Senior level.

      Experience as a Real Time Power Trader, Power Dispatcher, Power Plant Control Room Operator, Power Accounting Specialist, Engineering Technician, Design Engineer, or other relevant experience is required.

      Education

      Completion of an Associate's degree, Apprenticeship, or 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

      Hybrid Workplace

      SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
