PURPOSE:
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Inventory Control Clerk (ICC) provides friendly,
courteous, and helpful service. The ICC checks all merchandise delivered to the store and supervises all
Direct Store Delivery (DSD). Oversees the return of salvageable merchandise. Walks the entire store
every day to scan DSD and addresses areas of under or over ordering and/or out of stock conditions.
Communicates with Store Director, order writers, night crew employees, merchandisers, and File
Maintenance Clerk. Knowledgeable of weekly ad and DSD displays. Monitors donations. Is responsible
for grocery and non-perishable inventories. Pays direct delivery bills and tracks ROWSAP’s. Oversees the
reduction of backroom inventories. Maintains backroom security, cleanliness, and organization. Keeps
track of all pallet and floor jacks and ensures the equipment works properly. Maintains backroom
organization, safety, and backroom schematic integrity.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides customer service as defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within
company policy.
• Maintains cleanliness, security, and organization of backroom area of store per company policies
• Monitors all damaged, expired, or salvageable merchandise and returns for credit, follows mark down
policy.
• Makes donations per company guidelines.
• Checks in all items delivered and ensures that merchandise count and type matches bill of lading or
other pertinent information.
• Prints all warehouse invoices and daily consolidated report and checks for errors.
• Accounts for shortages and transfers of merchandise between departments and stores.
• Verifies identity and credentials of all delivery drivers.
• Maintains DSD schematic, monitors changes and schedule of ad items and resets.
• Weekly duties include: reconciling ROWSAP, reconciles the consolidated DSD report, charts book
inventory, walks departments to check for off shelf merchandise, has DSD vendors pick up all credits and
cleans shelves.
• Monitors location of all pallet and floor jacks.
• Advises Store Director of work orders for equipment repairs.
• May order all in store supplies.
• Stocks various sections of sales floor which include dairy, ponca, bread and others as defined by Store
Director.
• Monitors inter-office mail and company web page daily for updated information.
• Responsible for monthly reset duties as defined by company policy.
• Communicates with vendors on out of stock conditions.
• Adheres to Federal, State local laws. Adheres to Safeway policies and store rules.
• Other duties as assigned.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or
related experience.
• Must meet the minimum requirements to interview and pass interview for promotion.
• Ability to interact with vendors, delivery drivers, customers, co-workers, and management.
• Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Basic math skills.
• Basic computer knowledge to include email, Excel, and store portal.
• Works with a sense of urgency and takes initiative.
• Ability to solve problems, make quality decisions and work independently.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Must be organized, detail oriented, accurate and have good time management skills.
• Ability to multitask while working under stress and time constraints.
• Reports to work in proper uniform per company policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following attempts to communicate the traditional physical demands associated with this
position:**

hour workday.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Working conditions consist of a temperature-controlled store environment. Occasional exposure to
outdoor environment with varying temperatures
