Job Description

- Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person or location.
- Monitors main phone activity by answering incoming phone calls, routes calls to the appropriate person or department, checks voicemails, operates public address (PA) system to page personnel, and takes and gives accurate messages to the right individual.
- Provides general information and answers routine questions from staff and visitors.
- Maintains the visitor sign-in log and visitor security badges.
- Assists Human Resources with administrative tasks.
- Promotes District activities and programs to the public and makes sure District flyers and literature are stocked in the reception area.
- Keeps the reception area clean and organized.
- Performs a wide variety of clerical and routine administrative and programmatic work of a general or specialized nature in support of departments as needed.
- Ensures office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk.
- Maintaining the District conference room calendar.
- Handles job stress.
- Interacts effectively with others in the workplace.
- Follows all workplace and job safety rules and policies.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as required.
- Business English and arithmetic and modern office practices, procedures, software, and equipment.

The Receptionist is a standalone position and is the front-facing customer service representative of Orange County Water District that reports to the Human Resources Department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINESAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training : High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree.
Experience: Two (2) years of receptionist and general office experience involving substantial customer contact; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must have experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
License: Valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.

Environment : Standard office setting.
Physical : Positions in this class typically require reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Vision : See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing : Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS
All Orange County Water District employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employees are required to complete all related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, 1 hour lunch.
Hourly (Non-Exempt) Range: $27.22 - $34.02
