      Essential Functions (critical to job function):

      Receptionists provide crucial support to Center on Halsted. The top priority is for reception staff to welcome all patrons and clients when entering the building and to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all. Reception staff also manage the reception desk, ensure lobby cleanliness and organization, answer and route incoming phone calls, process client payments, provide referrals, (with the help of operations and security) address patrons misbehaving and not following our In-Center Commitments, and complete other duties as assigned.

      Duties/Responsibilities:

      • Maintain a friendly and helpful disposition when interacting in-person or on the phone with diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community members and allies; welcome all Center constituents and provide excellent customer service.
      • Multi-task when needed, e.g. helping a caller on the phone while keeping an eye on the lobby. Keep an eye on security cameras with a focus on the lobby and sidewalks; report potential issues to security and operations.
      • Provide clear, understandable, and accurate information to diverse clients; efficiently search through multiple sources of information to provide patrons with information quickly.
      • Maintain confidentiality for all visitors and clients; answer questions and provide referrals as needed; maintain professional boundaries with visitors and clients.
      • Maintain clean and organized environment, including lobby tables, chairs, and reception desk.
      • Ensure duties on receptionist checklist are completed along with any other assigned tasks; update rosters as needed; process all paperwork as needed; process financial payments, according to policy, as needed.
      • Train and monitor volunteer receptionists; ensure they are able to perform all duties needed; provide feedback as necessary.
      • Ensure effective radio communication with Security and Operations to support real-time coordination during the shift.
      • Maintain log of received and shipped packages; ensure delivery of any packages left at reception desk; address problems as needed.
      • Assist operations as requested; Anticipate problems and suggest improvements.
      • Communicate effectively with diverse population, including all Center constituents, e.g. staff, patrons, clients, donors, volunteers, interns, etc.
      • Punctuality and flexibility required; nights and weekends required.
      • Coordinate with Operations and Security teams to uphold and enforce Center on Halsted’s community commitments and policies.
      • Print and distribute the daily Center calendar to designated locations each morning.
      • Support lobby patrons in accessing the food pantry, ensuring a respectful and organized process.
      • Support secure handling of cash bags by working closely with Operations and Finance to maintain proper protocols.

      **Center on Halsted is a trauma informed organization and reception staff are required to undergo LGBTQ+ 101 Training & the Mental Health First Aid Training to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all
