      Job summary

      We are looking to recruit a friendly full time and part time GP receptionist/administrator. This will include working morning and evening shifts on rotation.

      Main duties of the job

      The post requires someone with initiative, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, empathy with patients and colleagues, well organised, reliable and with a flexible approach to team work. The role involves reception and admin duties both patient facing and over the phone.

      You will need excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work as part of a team while managing your own workload

      Squires Lane Medical Practice is a friendly and welcoming surgery. We have a list size of 5600 patients. Our reception team are very enthusiastic, supportive, highly motivated and works well as a team. Our Practice consists of 2 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 1 Practice Manager, 1 Nurse, 1 Health Care Assistant, 1 Reception Manager, 2 Medical Secretaries, 3 Medical Summarizers and 4 receptionists.

      Job responsibilities

      The purpose of the role is to:

      Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

      Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way

      Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team

      Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

      Duties and responsibilities:

      The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice administration team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the senior receptionist/practice manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:

      • Greeting patients
      • Opening up/locking-up of Practice premises and maintaining security
      • Printing blood forms.
      • Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services)
      • Picking up calls from patients and other services, e.g hospitals.
      • Assisting doctors and patient with queries.
      • Liaising with hospitals and pharmacy
      • Submitting e-consult lites
      • Processing e-consults and e-consult lites
      • Triaging patients to the appropriate services available.
      • Completing tasks from clinicians
      • Scanning and filling clinical/admin letters.
      • Processing incoming post and emails
      • Forwarding prescriptions to the doctors.
      • Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
      • Process samples received from patients following urine protocol.
      • Process referrals on a day-to-day basis ensuring they go to the correct service.
