- Important Responsibilities: Manage the records and evidence lab supporting critical law enforcement activities to ensure the City of Hermantown remains a safe and vibrant community.

- Previous experience is preferred but not required.
- Daily check-in of new evidence, regular purging and maintaining proper chain of custody.
- Training all personnel in the use of the evidence management system, including the evidence policy and manual, as well as proper evidence packaging, barcoding, storage, and other evidence systems and procedures.
- Maintain control of all evidence, lobby medication box and recovered property.
- Properly dispose of evidence and recovered property.
- Handle all administrative work related to evidence and property, including reporting, setting up and maintaining files, processing correspondence, and interfacing with the public.
- High school diploma with one or more courses in office skills, including typing and transcription.
- One to two years’ secretarial experience to include extensive computer use.
- Ability to work congenially and productively with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand the implications of working in the law enforcement area.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Tyler Technologies
- General knowledge of computerized inventory systems.
- Knowledge of proper methods and procedures for receiving and storing evidence and property.
- Knowledge of the proper handling of weapons and biohazard materials.
- Knowledge of law enforcement record keeping procedures and requirements as related to evidence and property management.
- This position must respond to a variety of requests, some of them urgent. Deadlines are frequent and all data entry must be performed accurately. Work is carried out in a normal office environment where sensitivity and confidentiality in dealing with the public is critical.
- Job may require working time beyond forty hours per week.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
