      Job Title: Records Specialist (41457)

      Job Locations: City of Virginia Beach – Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library

      4100 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452

      Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

      Pay Rate: $17.75/hourly.

      Overview:

      This position is located at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. Under the supervision of the Community Archivist/Special Collections Librarian.

      Job Duties:

      • Digitization of historical and municipal materials using flatbed scanners and photography.
      • Creation of metadata for archival objects.
      • Uploading and maintaining digital assets through network drives and the digital asset management system, CONTENTdm.
      • Processing archival collections using the content management system, ArchivesSpace.
      • Assist with research for city wide projects.

      Qualifications:

      • Attention to detail and good problem-solving ability.
      • Self-motivated, self-directed
      • Adept with software used in library and archive processing – Adobe Pro, Office 365, Microsoft Teams environment.
      • Ability to learn industry specific software: ContentDM, ArchivesSpace, Sirsi Dynix
      • Adept with hardware – Epson Expression 12000 XL, ScanSnap Pro, DSLR Camera, multifunction copier, Microsoft computers
      • Consistently perform responsible clerical work involving office tasks of a varied nature.
      • Apply industry standards of description to materials processed.
      • Input information into library systems accurately
      • Scan materials with precision
      • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
      • Ability to perform fine motor skill work.
      • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.

      Requirements:

      • Bachelor's degree or 2 years' experience in a fast-paced office setting.
      • Must provide DMV Transcript.
