      Enters and maintains inmate data into the computer system within the guidelines of computer system code reference books, department operating policies, bond procedures, instructions from the supervisor, and County policies and procedures. Reports to the Sergeant or other designated person and works with co-workers, employees, court staff, judges, lawyers, probation officers, and the public to provide operational support.

      • Provides folders, inmate files, and inmate information sheets and maintains files.
      • Updates information and prepares new booking sheets.
      • Answers telephone, assists general public, and serves as contact with court staff.
      • Advises or requests additional data on outstanding warrants and warrant status and places or removes hold requests.
      • Makes cell and floor assignments for inmates.
      • Serves as a resource to co-workers.
      • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

      Education: High school diploma, trade school, or G.E.D.

      Experience: One year of secretarial and/or records management experience.

      Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

      • Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, GCIC, NCIC, and CJIS system, and computer system codes for entering and retrieving criminal information data.
      • Familiarity with jail, department, and County policies and procedures.
      • Proficiency in file management, dealing with the public, and operating a computer and standard office equipment.
      • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
      • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
      • Typing/keyboarding (minimum 35 words per minute).

      Positions in this class typically require: walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work is performed in an office setting.

      Records is a 24/7 operation. Clerks are assigned to a 12 hour shift; would work seven (7) days every two weeks.

      Example working 12 hour day shift:

      1st Week: Work 2 days, Off 2 days, Work 3 days
      2nd Week: Off 2 days, Work 2 days, Off 3 days

      Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
