      POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

      Under administrative direction, the Recreation Specialist coordinates, oversees and supervises the planning and logistics of special event management, administration, volunteer recruitment and scheduling for recreation department events, park maintenance, programs and management of co-sponsor organizations.
      Current recruitment is for our Special Events Division.

      Essential Functions : -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

      • Manages, coordinates, administers, and oversees event planning and implementation for the various areas of the recreation department including facilities and public spaces; establishes strong relationships with various vendors, manages signage, secures permitting, and handles logistics for city events; develops social media, website designs, and other graphic designs for events, supervises and coordinates staff during events.

      • Manages and builds relationships with community and community partners; ensures compliance with agreements, schedules and serves as a liaison between community partnerships and the city; provides conflict resolution, encourages community engagement, and provides management to ensure success.

      • Gathers, reviews, and verifies daily financials for recreation facilities and programs; ensures deposit numbers match tracking software; verifies tax exempt transactions, reviews purchases and other accounting; monitors the budget and ensures all reimbursements are submitted and monitored.

      • Performs extensive record keeping duties; ensures compliance across the recreation facilities, beach, special events, and other recreation programs; submits and follows up on work orders and repair requests; assists in various payroll processing tasks and ensures appropriate tracking, reporting, and document filing.

      • Plans, develops, and facilitates various programs and projects involving special events, volunteers, athletics, and administration.

      • Delegates, assigns, and direct employees and volunteers at special events and volunteer projects.

      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Licenses or Certifications:

      A valid State driver's license is required.

      Education and Experience:

      Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Business Management PLUS two (2) years of Hospitality and Events volunteer or athletic administration including accounting, public speaking, and supervision; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

      Knowledge of

      • Customer service and engaging with City patrons, vendors, groups, and event planners

      • Event logistics, maintenance, requirements, and management

      • Recreational programming maintenance and organization

      • Marketing and promotion of events, programs, and groups

      • Scheduling and coordinating work of volunteers and staff

      • Program and project Management

      • Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records

      • Department Policies and Protocols

      • General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment

      Skill in

      • Developing, supervising, coordinating, and administering events and logistics

      • Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.

      • Coordinating multiple facets of recreational programming and City wide events

      • Delegating tasks, assigning personnel, and ensuring proper coverage

      • Graphic design, social media marketing, and other promotional platforms

      • Preparing and creating clear records and reports

      • First Aid and CPR

      • Establishing good relationships with patrons, event planners, and fellow staff

      • Making decisions in a fast-paced environment

      • Operating a computer with proficiency; typing and software
