      Duties: u00A0
      Under the direction of the Manager, Patient Care Services, you will work as part of a team, providing services to people with complex mental illness and substance use disorders. u00A0
      • Implement and coordinate all therapeutic recreation programs in the Mood & Anxiety Unit.
      • Develop goals and objectives for the provision of recreation and leisure services.
      • Develop therapeutic recreation programs and services in response to clientsu2019 needs, expressed interests and/or based on best-practices consistent with the clinical direction and programming needs.
      • Ensure that program planning includes written goals and objectives, a description of the staff and space requirements necessary to implement the activity.
      • Develop and implement policies and procedures relevant to recreation and leisure programs and services.
      • Manage equipment resources.
      • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
      • Research recreational and leisure opportunities that is suitable for those clients with substance use and concurrent disorders, many who are complex, severe or unstable.
      • Co-ordinate recreation services with other internal and external services and/or community agencies.
      • Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team and family members, including assisting clients with daily, weekly, and weekend goal setting.
      • Supervise student placements and volunteers.
      • Facilitate and implement quality management and risk management activities for the Integrated Forensics Program.
      • Complete initial assessments, quarterly reports and annual reports in accordance with the ROHCG policies and procedures and TRO Standards of Practice.
      • Work within the interdisciplinary team to develop a recreation plan for clients in accordance with their needs, skills, goals, and functioning level.
      • Ensure that information about recreation, programs and services are readily available to clients, their representatives, and families.
      • Ensure that assistance or adaptations are provided to facilitate client participation in activities they wish to attend.
      • Ensure that small group activities and individualized activities are provided for those clients not interested or able to participate in large group programs.
      • Provide outings and activities outside of the facility when indicted by the clinical team.
      • Participate as an active member of the ROMHC Recreation Therapy Discipline, reporting to to the Senior Recreation Therapist and Director of Allied Health Professional Practice with regard to professional issues and standards.
      • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.

      Qualifications: u00A0
      • University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or an Allied Health Degree with a post-grad Therapeutic Recreation diploma will be considered.
      • Experience working with clients living with moderate to severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and concurrent disorders across the life-span.
      • Knowledge of the impact of diagnosis on leisure functioning.
      • Ability to develop, plan and lead a variety of recreation therapy, leisure education and participation programs that are client-centered, evidence-based and outcome oriented.
      • Experience conducting leisure assessments, developing and delivering therapeutic programs, evaluation of programs and services, documenting to reflect client-centered outcomes and progress, and facilitating links with the community.
      • Experience working in a hospital, interdisciplinary setting is required
      • Experience with provision of individual and group programming is required, including goal setting.
      • Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is an asset.
      • English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, and preferred in reading and writing.u00A0 Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
