      Acute Care Program

      Position Description

      The Acute Care Program Medical Withdrawal Service requires a full-time, temporary (6 months) Recreation Therapist to support clients in an in-patient setting, experiencing severe substance use disorders and/or concurrent disorders. Reporting to the Manager of this service, you will collaborate with the inter-professional team to coordinate the intake and bed flow process, liaising between prospective clients, their families and care providers. Your knowledge of substance use disorders, primary care and the mental health and addictions systems will enable you to obtain, organize and communicate information essential to the team’s collaborative intake process. Your knowledge of harm reduction philosophy, awareness of the needs of diverse communities and trauma-sensitive care will be central to the excellent care and service you provide. You will promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by addressing the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients. You will develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. This will be accomplished by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. Linking clients to leisure activities in their community may be required. You will be expected to contribute to program development and to the research and educational activities of the service. You will be required to supervise students and volunteers. Some evening and weekend work will be required. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position is currently located at the Queen Street Site.

      Qualifications

      The successful candidate must have a degree or diploma in Recreation or Recreation Therapy or a postgraduate certificate in Recreation and good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices combined with one-year experience working as a Recreation Therapist. Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. Candidates with experience working as a Recreation Therapist with clients experiencing concurrent disorders is preferred. You have demonstrated ability in developing, organizing, and implementing leisure/recreation activities, and assessing leisure interests and abilities. You have strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills. You have the ability to access appropriate community supports and to work effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

      Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

      Please Note: This full-time, temporary (6 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

      Salary Range: $30.76 - $35.44 per hour
